Simon attended the University of Ife (now OAU) where he received a Bsc. degree (Economics) in 1981. He attended the West Africa Insurance Institute Monrovia Liberia where he obtained a diploma in insurance in 1986. He was elected Associate Member of The Chartered Insurance Institute of London (ACII) in 1988. He also attended the Bank Examiners School of FDIC in Halligton, Virginia, USA. He started his working career at the Insurance Department of Federal Ministry of Finance (now National Insurance Commission) as an Insurance Inspector. He left the Ministry to work briefly with Glanville Enthoven Insurance Brokers as a Manager before he joined the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) in 1990. Majority of his work at the NDIC was in Bank Examination function of the Corporation where he led various examination teams to assess the safety and soundness of many banks in Nigeria. He left the service of the Corporation in April 2014 as the Controller in charge of Ilorin Zonal Office which covers the operations of NDIC in Kwara, Oyo, Osun, Kogi and Ekiti States.
